The goal of this program is to address the industrial scale production of low-toxic and environmentally friendly antifouling coatings for mobile and stationary maritime applications, such as maritime transportation and fishing vessels, floating devices and aquaculture. ALGAENERGY’s mission in the consortia is the selection, culture and supply of microalgal biomass from different microalgae strains, to be analyzed as antifouling agents.

The consortium is formed by 11 European countries and led by Stiftelsen SINTEF. In addition to ALGAENERGY, the consortium is composed by CIDETEC Foundation, Fraunhofer Institute, MateriaNova, MARINTEK, Smallmatek SA, Lonza Ltd, OCAS NV, Jotun AS, AquaBioTech Ltd, Zunibal SL, Plasmachem GmbH and the universities of Santiago de Compostela, Tel Aviv, Liverpool, Mons, National Technical University of Athens and Chalmers University of Technology.
